I first met Rhiannon Simpson when she was just starting out on her musical adventure. She played guitar, drums and anything else she could get her hands on but more than her musical talent, her personality was just so engaging. She was excited to be alive at every turn and I was really hoping to work with her in the future. So far I have had the great privilege of doing two photoshoots and some gigs with Rhiannon, things I would love to do more of in the future!

Somewhere around 2016 I was doing a lot of photography and realised that I would like to do something that combined my love of music and still imagery - and Rat Music was born.

I was lucky enough to be playing semi-regular gigs at Suttons House Of Music so I thought no better place to host an exhibition as part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale . As luck would have it, the amazing Nadia Moth was also looking for a place to exhibit so we got to work, and with the help of the fantastic Dani Fry and staff at Suttons we were away. We had a fantastic launch with Tessa Marshall and Shane Gilbert providing entertainment. Below is a gallery of the images that I created. Some are posed, some are live. All of the images were given to the artists (where possible) as a donation for their time and effort. This was such a fun project and I would love to do something like this again in the future. In order are:

  • Adrian Smith

  • Andrew Fry

  • Deb Clarke

  • Jac Kreemers

  • Max Sharam

  • Mick Trembath

  • Patrick McCabe

  • Rhiannon Simpson

  • Shane Gibert

  • Steve Plater

I had the great privilege of spending some time with an amazing mind at work just recently. She's known as a data ninja, and if you talk to me, you know I love ninjas. Data is great, ninjas are awesome, so to meet a dead set data ninja made me pretty happy. And it turns out that Pia Andrews http://pipka.org/ is a musician to boot.

I'm pretty easily amused, so impressing me is easy. I don't have any great claims to fame, and on meeting Pia, she was kind, genuine and present. All the things that make you want to learn some things, and go out and do them.

And that leads me here. I asked whether I should post things to my LlinkedIn page (https://www.linkedin.com/in/pete-donohue/) and she said, why not blog about it then cross post to other platforms. She was right about so many things that day that I figured, why not have a crack at it. So here we are. When I get time, I'll dive more into the work we did with Pia, but for now, go check her out. She's a weirdly amazing person that truly believes in what she's doing which is something I always admire. Now to think of other blog stuff.....
